Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls to sing Lupang Hinirang

Nicole Scherzinger, the half-Filipino leader of the female singing group Pussycat Dolls, expressed her interest in singing Lupang Hinirang or the Philippine National Anthem in the upcoming fight of international boxing superstar - Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao.

Personally, it would be an honor for the Philippines for Nicole to sing the national anthem as this would mean another positive news or plus point for our beloved country. Imagine, Nicole an international singing icon known everywhere in the world to proudly sing Lupang Hinirang. Just like it was an honor when Charice Pempengco and other international and local singers sang our national anthem.

But I do want to give Nicole (as if we're close but who knows she might or her personal assistant might be able to read this little blog of mine and get the message) an advise to follow the Philippine Law about singing the country's national anthem especially the marching beat if she don't want to be criticized heavily by the National Historical Institute (NHI) here in the Philippines and other solid concerned entities or individuals for violating the law on how to properly sing the national anthem. I just worry that she might somehow be tempted to change its beat because of her American singing influence which normally "poppify" or "hiphopize" (these coined words are inspired by DJ Delamar in RX 93.1 FM station) songs. Just like what happened to Martin Nievera where he sung the song ballad-like.

Anyway... Whether she sings it as per the Philippine Law or not as I don't really make this "proper singing of national anthem" a big issue as compared to rape; murder; theft; etc., personally, it's an honor for the Filipino people to have an internationally acclaimed singer who has the Filipino blood sing our national anthem.
